Country Garden in Totteridge

The concept for this garden is taken from the rural history of the property. The irregular shapes of the lawns and planted areas are designed to mimic those of the fields in the countryside beyond. These shapes are formalised and structured close to the house and gradually become looser towards the end of the garden. This journey from controlled formality to expressive nature  creates a sense of relaxation as you move through the garden. A soft planting style has been used to mimic the wooded areas of trees between the fields in the distance. A sense of continuity with the natural landscape is created and also within the garden itself, the garden feels as though one space with many areas to visit to entice you out into nature.
